Topic Purpose

When students learn an opening that they always use, they are better prepared for tournaments. They become familiar with the tactics and strategies in the position related to their opening and are less likely to  get into a bad position from the opening. It gives them an advantage against better players. This series teaches the Scotch Opening, which is an open game that gives White good attacking options.

     Lesson 1 learning objectives

  • This lesson teaches general concepts of the Scotch and moves that beginners might make against it.

    Lesson 2 learning objectives

  • This lesson teaches the Mieses variation with Nb6.

     Lesson 3 learning objectives

  • This lesson teaches the Mieses variation with Ba6.

     Lesson 4 learning objectives

  • This lesson teaches the Kasparov variation.

     Lesson 5 learning objectives

  • This lesson teaches the Steinitz variation with Qa4.
